Violence cannot be fought with more violence – A fundamental lesson for a better future.

Following the events last week of the mass shooting in Florida that killed 17 people, many thoughts came to my head regarding the concept of violence, guns and personal security, as I believe happened to many. I’m not an American and I’m personally against violence or ware, as I believe it brings only more misery and hatred. So how come a country like the United State that is explaining to itself and everyone around that they are the leaders and protectors of the free world cannot understand the simplest principle of all – Violence cannot be solved with more violence.

This morning The US president Donald Trump has proposed that teachers at school should start to hold guns for the safety of their school. Such an idea is ridicule and mocking the intelligence of any good citizen searching for peace security. Lets pass on a few statistics, in America there is an average of a mass shooting every 2 months for many years. Moreover, Some 13,286 people were killed in the US by firearms in 2015, according to the Gun Violence Archive, and 26,819 people were injured [those figures exclude suicide]. This is an Average of 36 dead A DAY!
We are so proud calling ourselves the free world. We preach for values as freedom and equality. We are explained by our governments that we sending our kids to fight in far lands for the sake of protecting those values. From the other side, the daily life is showing a different reality. A country that promote violence inside its border can not promote or lead a change for a better world. For sure not one that is searching to achieve peace.

It is time we look in the mirror and start asking ourselves the right questions…Are we really doing everything to promote a better and safer future for our kids? Are we the cause or the result of the violence of those days?
